I really liked reading this one, your writing style and approach was simple enough to keep me engaged and follow through the steps no problems at all. Thanks 🙂
Interesting read, perhaps a bit long for the amount of cracking effort (or lack of?) required 🙂
Great to see another contributor to the tutorial section, don’t let this be the last one Galahad!
Just wanted to be thorough. Really could have condensed it to about three paragraphs, just a stupidly easy game to crack, in fact pretty much all of them with this system are abysmally easy, but I wrote it in a way to suggest to the reader that expanding ideas and thinking outside the box could be an alternative to pissing around decrypting the Copylock itself.
Nice well written tutorial. A good level of detail for the less experienced people to follow. Always interesting to read these even if it’s a nice easy one.
I’ve got no issues using AR, back in the day it was essential kit because the scene was so competitive, but theres a degree of satisfaction doing it without the AR’s key features, and it is a degree of pride, because crackers on the ST scene had just as many complex copy protections, yet didn’t have anything like AR and yet were able to crack everything regardless. A couple of years ago I cracked some ST games on Amiga with AR for the challenge of not being able to run them, was good fun.
Coming from electronics background I’ve never understood why using hardware tools such as AR (or Nordic Power) would somehow be less l337 than software based ones, but have noticed that trend when it comes to Amiga cracking. Whatever makes the job faster and easier is smart, right? Why cripple yourself by avoiding the best tools, still don’t get it, hehe.
I wondered that too for quite some time and then figured it must be the pride in the work/achievement that does it for a “true cracker” ; a bit like a painter refusing to use spraypaint…?
…or a juggler wearing blindfold. OK, think I get it now, it’s the extra challenge. Still, from what I remember back in the day every second counts to be first with the release, beat the rest by uploading to the board (bbs) that matters.
