Not that hard as long as you know how. 🙂 And you can do some nice tricks with 100% relocatable code, just check out this source, I used a few of them there to save some bytes. 🙂
Nothing wrong with that at all. Relocatable code is hard to write by hand!
What’s ugly about that? Just in case you didn’t notice, this is a 4k intro so it was optimized for size, not for speed!
