I’m assuming this is unaccelerated VGA / VESA. Is that correct?
How was scrolling done on the VGA?
Doing music on the PC must have sucked in those days, what with all the audio hardware zoo at the time, and no abstraction of any kind… it must have been hell having custom detection code for every sound card… Now that I think about it, banging the audio card, the VGA and the BIOS directly must have been an order of magnitude more complicated and harder than programming the CustomChips on the Amiga. Is that correct?
Yes, it is unaccelerated stuff. The scrolling is a pure 86asm code. The music: no, those days were already easy for the musicians. Fast Tracker was already there as well as the ScreamTracker. This music thou was done under the RAD Adlib Tracker, which, as for the GUI, was very similar to a common pro-trackers. The issue was to know-how to squeeze an Adlib custom music-chip properly, what had started/been accelerated mostly thanx to an ex-C64 musician JCH/Vibrants who had moved on to the PC in 1992. Custom detection was a pain and was in charge of the coders, indeed.… Read more »

Always liked Hybrid too. Some nice PC intro but usually just good banter 🙂

One of my FAVest crackintros for MSDOS. Thanx for this conversion, dude…. LightForce by Phandral is just gorgeaous (we will hear whether it is a full version here ;)..
Looks ok, nice “Lightforce” conversion for the music. I always liked Hybrid, probably because such a huge proportion of their memberlist came from the Amiga 🙂
Speaking of “Lightforce” – I recall a C64 cracktro with this tune, the gfx was a big alien-like (?) eye… Anyone can help finding it? I’m also looking for a C64 cracktro with Sylvester “Cobra” Stalone pic and scroll only – these are my 1st memories… T.I.A!
Yes, Sachy. The “eye” was pixeled by Bob Stevenson (aka BOB – http://csdb.dk/scener/?id=3891). The demo itself you are refering to is one by DELTA4 entitled “LEGEND OF KAGE” (http://csdb.dk/release/?id=29028).
And the “real gfx” is called “SENTINEL” and was relased in 1986 on the UK’s CNET scene.
Pleasure man, pleasure ;). Concerning that Cobra Stallone… Well, I am not sure… I will shoot – may be you are thinking about the one with the gfx by STE’86 (http://csdb.dk/release/?id=13751). If not… Well, there were plenty of releases includning the gfx from the game itself, with scrolly and the tune.

Great one. cool logo
Right.. ok nothing special. Kinda Amiga’ish feeling with all those faking coppers and stuff.
