So for some trivia behind this… Trainer-menu was originally coded by The Red Baron (BS1) for a group called Full Evil (http://janeway.exotica.org.uk/release.php?id=22522), later re-used for a group called Bad Trip (http://janeway.exotica.org.uk/release.php?id=71393) and ultimately by Global OverDose. The common denominator in all fourgroups was Freud with whom I founded GOD in the summer of 1992 because we were bored and the trainer-groups had taken a summer-break. The trainer-menu underwent some color changes and the vector routine was added but that was pretty much it resulting in a pretty “dated” look in 92-93 when GOD was using it. Purple Haze (aka Crazybyte/TSL)… Read more »
PH was a very skilled (technical) H/P’er and so was Freud ; requiring real skills. We had bluebox frequencies noone else had which allowed us to dial out for up to 18 months (New Zealand and Australia come to mind). It also explains our (GOD) exotic taste for board locations (Saudi Arabia / Uruguay and supporting Australian boards when most of the scene had given up). PH detected a flaw in the Meridian voicemail system whereby “internal” forwards could be mapped to any (international) number — that helped us for a few years 🙂 Finally -and given I lack any… Read more »
Without incriminating myself, that all sounds very familiar to me 🙂 I was in a hacking group with PH for some years, and we had a similar experience with blueboxing & various VMB systems – brings back memories indeed! “Meridian Mail, mailbox?” hehe…
I do indeed 🙂 I was a regular on there, met the sysop in real life a few years later too.
I remember things getting a bit toxic on there after a TV program in the UK (“Walk on the Wild Side”) exposed a bunch of stuff about blueboxing etc., since the people on the program were users of that BBS so you got some people defending them and (mostly) others attacking them for revealing everything to the media!
spooky that there was a BBS that is so close to where i lived that was run by someone with the same handle i ended up using as my BBS name and then eventually as my handle.
The Brewery and Bandit’s BBS were our favorites. We supported those boards as long as the hack worked. Now that I get to travel to Oz frequently for work, I wouldn’t mind meeting up with some of the legends 🙂
I don’t really remember any good GOD intros (not a criticism really, just they used a simple yellow text crack/trainermenu a lot that I remember, nothing fancy) – can you point me at some of the better ones? 🙂

-snif- what a trip down nostalgia lane… I must point out that this was the very first intro used by GOD and that more attractive ones were used at a later point 😉

I didn’t know Crazybyte == Purple Haze! I knew him more from the H/P scene than Amiga honestly, but he made some cool trainers 🙂

Tune’s a cover of: Rob Hubbard – Auf Wiedersehen Monty
Kind of a boring intro, I still like flat shaded cubes tho.
