Oh yeah, I remember that AGA crack; actually he helped Cheech to crack that one over the phone 😉 Phil just became a professional game developer, mainly for consoles (Atari Jaguar, GBA, PS2 etc).. And no, he wasn’t a member of Dytec, ever.

@Annatar: Was he ever in Dytec? Are you sure about that? I know about Crystal / Delirium / Fusion / Thrill Kill Kult (where Mok was the other cracker)… Phil was just one of those oldskool crackers known for quality work ; I don’t recall any of his cracks needing a fix (but I could be wrong about that). He could handle the toughest protections and was exceptionally fast at it. Part of the legend also comes from him (successfully) cracking other platforms whilst using a different machine. E.g. he used his ECS Amiga to crack the first AGA games… Read more »

So how does the legend of Phil Douglas actually go? What’s the deal with him, other than he was a famous cracker for Dytec?
Well, since I ran out of time to edit (bad sectors on my crossdos 720k xfer floppy) I’ll just double post. I looked at this intro on my Amiga and StingRay is so right…it’s way chunkier. In this case Flashtro conversion is a fine form of flattery, if insincere 🙂 It’s still a cool intro to look at on the Amiga, and the legend of Phil Douglass deepens the appeal.
Gonthar is referring to the older days of the scene… In the late 80’s, no self-respecting group would sell software. But then again these were the days where someone could go to a highstreet retailer, pick up an original that had been released for a week or so, send it to a cracker by mail who then took the time needed to do his job. The cracker then sent it to a mailtrader who spread the ‘fresh’ release. In the 90’s, competition peaked and the price of failiure got high ; i.e. you ended up buying a game and not… Read more »
Scrolltext: "if you want to buy"… f*ck that shit. No self-respecting (old school) group would ever sell warez… Nice intro, but selling warez was and still is crap! Gonthar/The Band
Funny you should write that, considering that two all-time legends on the Amiga, PaRaDoX and Skid Row, sold warez.
@Gonthar: i did it never ,too but i think this is thema for a forum, not for here! i think the most of the old schoolers here can list a lot of groups and guys they sold their stuff for a lot of money . the real robin hoods never done this 🙂 the scence always had 2 faces !
@axis: not true! The Band never ever sold warez. If we knew one of the group members would do so, he’d be kicked out instantly! *Most* groups did not sell warez, only lamers did.

Gonthar/The Band
We should ask Phil Douglas if he would have cracked this shit without any extra pennies … I doubt it …
"the most of the really big old school groups sell warez!" … shit but reall!

nice tune 🙂
scrolls missing !
cool one!
I really like rotozoom based cracktro 🙂
One of my favorites :] The music makes this cracktro work.
Plus, it looked different on a real Amiga due to the chunky copper mode. =)
Yeah this intro came quite late and was quite nice too back then 🙂
I remember this intro. Awesome, always liked the music.
great one, though I think I had already left the scene when this was released… Great rotozoom, and funny music making a good atmosphere ! 🙂
