Not so bad, TBH. Even I found it quite empty (for me it really lacks a good logo!!) I liked it back in the daze. Even if that “no loop” thingy was not really a good idea. But from the other hand, there were no interesting (well…) information to read about.
It is funny how the intro (might) went from hands to hands. Coded on the melon way for Nemesis, released by Ministry. Ha! Might be it was proposed to Nintendon’t… sorry, to Paradox, as well ;).

It is obvious and understandable. It is like seeing your partner… hanging around with another man (Hey Joe?…). He should have sent a serious disk-bomb to “727, Chemin des Marnieres”.
Ha! That might explain that hidden part “animation”.
Well… Melon should have stayed DK only, then…

Hmm this is not really a sourcecode, just a quick possibilty to edit the text for the packager.

Yes. I was kinda unpleasantly surprised, tbh…
The HXC oldskoolers gonna say – one can disassemble that.

Nice Melon Dezign design, which I always liked, with or wihtout scroller!!! 😉
For some reason, it doesn’t play continuously, it stops. Nothing you can do about that?

What he did was deliver an equivalent of a .o object file (all code pre-assembled) so that people would not have access to the source… This puts even Oracle corporation’s infamous practices to shame… it’s even worse than them. Nice intro design, but how one can have an intro without a scroller, I mean one can literally see a huge gaping design hole because the scroller is missing, and it obviously didn’t bother the author one bit… Almost 35 years later and I still don’t get how one could make such a gaping omission. On second thought, it *IS* MeLoN… Read more »

Judging solely by the messages one could find disassembling old intros (“gtfo lamer, no ripping, …”), they were pretty far off of what one considers “open source” nowadays.

It was also partially because the people releasing the games (uploading) weren’t the most technical, so the easier you could make it for them the better.
I did the same for my Dreamcast intro, basically writing a little tool that read a scrolltext file + appended it to the intro binary – because talking some of the people through compiling/linking everything was like explaining magnets to a dog…

Never thought of it like that.
I always believed someone who would mess with intros and official group releases would be a cracker – someone who knows ml, assembler and linker inside out.
But I do get your point.

well we in skidrow/brainwalker+me did it the same way, this method has more advantage, for example, me warped the original, while sending to the cracker, i did the intro scrolltext, assembling, crunching, then sending this to the cracker too, alot of time saved that way, while the cracker only has to bother about the protection, and nothing else (i know crackers who needs an extra half day for the intro thing, well that worked during VF times) , 90% of all skidrow releases were done that way, sometimes the cracker got the original delivered to his home from rudi, during that… Read more »

it needs little tricks to be as fast as possible…and all has to be well organized.

Sooo true! No magic tricks needed.
Me – as well – back in the days, I was thinking that ALL the dudes (à part of suppliers) in the release-game process have been “pro” with intro editing, tune adding, compiling, crunching and etc. It was later scenes days which gave me the answers 😉
