This is really impressive and a great conversion, TStorm. But for some reason I don’t really feel this one, as a crack intro.
That’s a lot of action for a c64 intro… How did they even pull this off on that machine?
Is the scroller really like that on C64, or has this one had a bit of polish?
It’s exactly like that on C64. Bacco was a bit ahead of his time when he did it. Both starfield and scroller are multiplexed sprites and he used CPU to do the diagonal scroller (2pixels up, 2 pixels to the left) and sinus table to move scroller sprites horizontally by simply changing sprite.x position. He was 20 years ahead of his time and still unmatched. 20 years later and it still blows my mind.
It really is like that on the C=64!
Hence we came up with the joke “Bacco thought he’s on the Amiga”.

This is simply awesome, outstanding scroller. Definitely one of the top 5 c64 crack intros of all time.
Never mind the awesome scroller, note the vector over the starfield! That is absolutely crazy and should be technically impossible on the Commodore64 – everything over everything like on the Amiga. It means he must have used the processor to do OR’s which is even crazier that he managed to get it to run so fast. This intro shouldn’t be possible on the Commodore64, and yet, it exists.
